Paul is a hounded animal.
The weight of him—
like hers.
But more.

He stumbles forward.
A drunk heavyweight
towards bed.

In my nightmares
women fling bats
at big shadows.

In this field,
in Ohio,
there are black hollyhocks
and burnt rubber.

There are the goats
at the salt lick.
There is my heart
in my throat.


She takes my hand
& holds it

against the electric fence
until I scream.
