Superbloom

& we are so March-bred:
peonies bright & foaming at the mouth.
Nothing blooms anymore.
I swallow a water-logged prayer,
heat-choked & luffing.

I straddle the shore,
find sickness in a land
-locked field. Pale & learning
how to outpace the tide.
